At 1pm on June 16, Gangwon-do hosted the '3rd Together Day Multi-National, Multi-Cultural Eowool Hanmadang' event attended by over 1,000 foreign-born residents at the Chuncheon Hoban Gymnasium.
This event enrooted in the 19,000 foreign-born residents of the province pride as a resident of Gangwon-do, and to Koreans it was a place of unity and communication by giving the opportunity for enhanced understanding for multi-national and multi-cultural families.
In addition, being recognized for their contribution for providing support for foreign-born residents to settle down in the area, Choi Cheol-yeong, CEO of the 'With Community' of Wonju, received the prime minister commendation and Sohn Young-im, assistant administrator of 'Housewife Group in Memory of Home' of Pyeongchang-gun, received the Minister of Public Administration and Security commendation.
Among foreign-born residents, Dori Sayuri (Japan) of Wonju, Janserani Lonchana (Thailan) of Jeongseon-gun and Hwentei Hongmai (Vietnam) of Cheorwon-gun won the individual governor award for successful integration into the local community, while being praised for their efforts.
In the foreign-born resident support group sector, the multi-cultural family support center of Sokcho, volunteer center of Hwacheon-gun and the Goseong Police Station security cooperation committee of Goseong-gun received the governor's commendation.
Kang Gi-chang, vice governor of administration, stated, "Gangwon-do is making many efforts to establish a mature multi-cultural environment where foreign-born residents and Koreans can live in harmony," and added, "We hope that as a proud member of the Korean society and as a Gangwonite, you lead a life where all abilities and capacities can be fully utilized and Gangwon-do will act as a strong support base for it."
