Official Tasks

The provincial office assists the nationalc
administration and coordinates the
city & county administration to facilitate
national and local projects in Gangwon-do
where more than two cities or counties are
involved, including fire protection and road
maintenance/improvement.
The provincial office also handles provincial projects for
exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries. The responsibility of each department is as follows:

Public Information

Informing the public about the activities of the provincial office via the Internet, promotional materials, TV, and newspapers.

International Cooperation

Raising the profile of Gangwon-do internationally, promoting international exchange and cooperation, and inducing foreign investment.

Legal Inspection

Examining the local level governments including the provincial office, municipal offices, and county offices, and enacting/amending provincial regulations.

Planning & Administration

Planning development projects across Gangwon-do and managing the provincial budget.

Autonomous Administration

Collecting and applying taxes, managing the local government officials, dealing with civil defense, developing sports, and fostering youth.

Environment, Tourism, and Culture

Developing and promoting tourist attractions, expanding cultural facilities, protecting cultural assets, and conserving the natural environment.

Public Health, Welfare and Women

Assisting aged and disabled citizens, ensuring gender equality, preventing infectious disease, and regulating other health matters.

Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery

Supporting those who work in the agriculture and livestock industry, and preserving forest resources and wildlife.

Industry and Economy

Developing a coal mining area, supporting industry and commerce, and inducing investment to boost the provincial economy.

Construction and Disaster Prevention

Improving the residential environment including water supply, drainage, and river systems, and protecting the province and its members against disasters such as flood and drought.

Fire Headquarters

Operating fire stations across Gangwon-do to prevent fire, conduct fire drills, and perform rescue missions.

Future Planning

Drawing a blueprint for the future of Gangwon-do as an innovative business town.

Agricultural Technology Center

Developing and distributing new agricultural technologies.

Public Workers Education Center

Training all government officials in Gangwon-do.

Public Health Environment Research Institute

Testing and researching the quality of water and detecting whether foods are harmful or not.
